As the old saying goes, “for 200 years we’ve been conquering Nature. Now we’re beating it to death”. Everyone needs to jump on the Eco-friendly band wagon these days. There are lot of options for being eco-friendly from using solar power and recyclable material to building eco-friendly housing. Log homes are the best choice available for building eco friendly homes today. From planning and construction to living in the Eco friendly wood homes, every activity has little or no negative impact on the environment. Though the Eco friendly wood homes are offered by various companies, not all of them are equal. You should know some factors about the Eco friendly wood homes before choosing the one for you.

Eco friendly wood homes made from Northern White Cedar are better than others

Eco friendly wood homes are made of different types of wood. Most of the eco friendly wood homes are made using the “Dry Dead Standing trees”. As the name indicates, this type of wood used in constructing the log homes will be of very poor quality. Though many log home manufacturers claim using the “Dry Dead Standing trees” as the cheapest and best option, this is simply untrue. The true fact is that though the log homes made from “Dry Dead Standing trees” needs low initial investments, the maintenance cost of these log homes will be very high. Getting log home constructed using the “Dry Dead Standing trees” will end up in a lifetime of repairs and maintenance.

When it comes to the best wood for constructing the log homes, the Northern White Cedar are the ones to look for. There are countless numbers of benefits in using Northern White Cedar in the construction of the log homes. One of the main advantages of this type of wood is it’s unsurpassed durability. The Northern White Cedar can retain its good appearance and toughness for more than 100 years. The maintenance cost of the log homes constructed with Northern White Cedar will be much less when compared to the other types of log homes.

Northern White Cedar log homes are better than White Pine Log Homes

White pine is also widely used in the construction of log homes. Though white pine log homes are better than the ones constructed from “Dry Dead Standing trees”, they too have some drawbacks. White pine logs do not have the capacity to resist insects and rot. This means the log homes made from white pine needs some special treatment to prevent insects entering the house. You don’t have to worry about insects and rot if you are living in a log home constructed with Northern White Cedar. Researches revealed that Northern White Cedar is imbued with natural resins that repel insects and resist rot and degredation.

Considering all these benefits, the Northern White Cedar log-homes are the best eco-friendly homes available in this planet.

Eco friendly property in Spain.

“Go Green” – “ECO friendly” – “save the planet” – “Global Warming”. All words we are very familiar with unless you have lived on the moon for the past 5 years or so. Now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and offering green products and services. But how green are they and is it just a token gesture to be popular? We have been researching the possibilities of building eco friendly and economical green villas in Spain after I inadvertently made the mistake of asking my wife how she would like her new house built. “Eco friendly” she replied.

Those two words began a journey of thousands of miles across Europe and countless hours researching the web to find out how “eco friendly” I could build her dream home. Initially I found that an eco friendly home was just a cave house…I didn’t fancy living in or building a cave house, or they had thicker lagging on pipes or they offered solar water heaters…BIG DEAL, I expected that as standard, in fact it is law in Spain now to have alternative water heating supply, one company even classed a home as eco friendly because the heating had a thermostat.

Two years later and after securing the sole rights to build with a German quality ICF system we are beginning our first two new eco friendly villas in Spain for clients and have several scheduled to begin next year. The interest has been amazing; unfortunately this means my wife’s dream home has been put on hold for a while but our business and our attitude to all things green is being transformed. We are offering geothermal heating systems, solar power, grey water systems, water saving systems inside and outside the home, wind turbines, appliance advice, lighting systems I never knew existed and even water less toilets (the jury is still out on that one with me) all this to make our eco friendly villas in Spain as economically friendly as we can. The fantastic thing about the Eco friendly build systems is the speed and insulating values they offer. A traditional styled villa of a 100m2 villa can be erected within 10 days! Saving weeks of labour charges thus bringing the cost of these new eco friendly properties on par or even cheaper than traditional block and beam villas. The insulation values are amazing and they even have fantastic sound insulation (great if you have noisy teenagers like me).

When we first introduced this system to an architect he looked blankly at the proposal and smiled that smile you see in Spain when you know they think you are mad and after experiencing this manic suppressed grin over a lengthy period of time with a lot of old – maybe not old but my age – ok old Architects! We finally came across a young enthusiastic architect who believed and embraced the system as we did. We drew up a set of plans and submitted them to the local town hall and put the project forward to the bank for a valuation. The town hall was thrilled with the idea and the bank valued the project over 40% higher than we charged the client! Now this could have a lot to do with the fact that we are inexpensive builders but the manager did tell us they are valuing homes with eco friendly factors higher than traditional homes.

We are not jumping on the bandwagon … we’re driving it!

Green, it seems, is the new black. We are slowly beginning to eat, sleep and even build green, with the One Brighton initiative well under-way launching an eco-friendly lifestyle along with sustainable accommodation. We can travel to work on “Big Lemon” buses that run on vegetable oil and can even choose to be buried in biodegradable coffins; but some times it’s the small things that make the difference…

Unfortunately not all of us can afford the cost of swapping our Fiat Bravo for the new Eco-Bravo; and many of us are challenged to find the time to clean, let alone the time to make our own green cleaning supplies as one “be-green” article suggests. But you can still do your bit.

Eco-friendly living is becoming paramount as “ecoanxiety” creeps into our culture. This could be a likened to jogging an extra mile after eating one-to-many prawn crackers the night before and has people acknowledging feelings of guilt after doing something wasteful. Eco stores both on and offline in the UK seem to have provided us with a quick-buy-fix to such feelings and are helping to make the green-way, the easiest way. Americans offer a different more expensive solution. Columbian psychologists have developed “eco-therapy”, available for anyone “worrying themselves sick over green issues.”

The product range in such Eco Stores reflects the “can-do, must-do, will-do” attitude of our new, caring public and is compatible with the most uneco-friendly lifestyle. A firm favourite being the easy to use Eco-kettles, which have a special feature allowing the user to fill the kettle to full capacity. Another product designed to help in a small but vital way is the water powered calculators which come with H2O batteries.

The last 15 years we have seen temperatures soar with the ten hottest years since the 1860s! The price of our materialism is ever increasing – affecting our climate, our fuel prices and our lives on even the most basic level. It is time that we, the caring public, do something. The offer of practical, inexpensive products which are accessible to anyone with the internet is on a plate (be it a green one); there is no longer any excuse not too do your bit. A kettle, a calculator or a car –eco begins at home.

Authors: My Eco Store is the online brainchild of three mothers who decided to do their bit and then a bit more. The store shares eco facts, tips and sells practical eco-friendly items for the home and office.

Sustainable, luxury beachfront living is no longer just a dream â?? new Caribbean properties like Oceano Village combine environmentally-friendly development with exotic locations and the latest eco innovations for sustainable living at its finest. From careful planning of land usage to future sustainability, these luxury Caribbean properties bring an entirely new perspective to green living.

Net-Zero Construction

Several years of preparation take place before construction begins on a sustainable luxury village. Extensive planning is involved in the land development, the architecture, the building process, the furnishings and appliances, and even the future environmental impact of the village. To achieve a net-zero impact, everything possible is done to ensure these luxury ocean side villas give back at least as much as they detract from the planet.

Low-Impact Architectural Designs. The cool breezes and pleasant year-round temperatures of the Caribbean naturally decrease energy use, but strategic positioning and innovative designs create truly eco-friendly homes without sacrificing luxurious oceanfront living. Oceano Village was the first Caribbean community to use cross ventilation and renewable energy sources like wind and solar power to minimize the environmental impact of fine living.

Renewable, Natural Building Materials. The innovative use of renewable materials, including durable limestone and sustainable hardwoods, are another way these luxury Caribbean properties lower the impact fine beachfront living can have on the environment. Both the interior and exterior are designed to showcase elegance without harming the environment, featuring gorgeous Honduran pine finishes, unique bamboo furniture, and other local renewable resources.

Sustainable Landscaping and Smart Water Use. From the fixtures within the villas to the expansive living areas outside the home, eco-friendly Caribbean communities promote water conservation and sustainability without detracting from the comforts of fine living. Low-flow bath fixtures drastically decrease water consumption inside the home while carefully planned landscape designs aid in replenishing the local water supply.

Waste-Free Luxury Living. Garbage is the source of a great deal of environmental damage. Sustainable development strives to eliminate waste through extensive recycling programs and natural composting efforts. The reuse of waste materials as an organic fertilizer encourages healthy, nutrient-rich soil without the use of harmful chemicals.

No Carbon, Low Emission Community. Wind and solar power enable homes to generate clean energy, eliminating typical carbon emissions from building structures. Gasses emitted from transportation are controlled in an eco-friendly development as well by encouraging alternate means. A network of bike trails and foot paths, neighbourhood electric buggies, and a convenient airport shuttle minimize the use of automobiles in Oceano Village.

From the perfect retirement spot to an elegant second home in the Caribbean, environmentally-friendly, oceanfront living is a dream come true on the lush island of Roatán. Extensive planning and careful construction, along with fine amenities and exquisite structures, are the foundation of sustainable luxury Caribbean properties like Oceano Village and showcase the many possibilities for eco-safe development.

Eco friendly ways of living are becoming more popular and more important to people. Creating eco friendly <a title=Assisted living facilities at Great Places! Href=http://www.greatplacesinc.com/features/AssistedLivingFacilities.aspx>assisted living facilities</a> or <a title=Adult care at Great Places! Href=http://www.greatplacesinc.com/features/AdultCare.aspx>adult care</a> homes are next on the list. You may think becoming more earth conscious just means recycling or re-using paper or plastic. However, for the homes that have that decided to become eco friendly it is so much more than that.

Green Construction
The first step in creating an eco friendly assisted living facility is constructing it in such a way and with such materials that are going to be environmentally friendly. From inception, green materials are chosen and decisions are made about each aspect of its construction. Generally buildings that are built in such a way are known as green buildings and are built with renewable materials, efficient in the way it is built and efficient with the energy used to build it and the energy that is generated within.

Green Systems
Upon completion of the eco friendly facility, decisions are made regarding the systems used indoors as well. From the green materials to the air, water and laundry purification, all are going to be chosen with the environment and resident’s health in mind. This will protect the environment and its resources while removing daily toxins from residents. Creating a pure air quality would also be considered when determining the types of green systems to establish. The benefit of being eco friendly up front in the construction is that it can save a lot of energy costs in the long run. This savings would hopefully spread to the overall cost for each resident.

Green Options
To further the eco friendly environment, all amenities are also made to go green. Facilities that offer Beauty salons or Barber Shops are considered when making the change to an all green facility. This might include any food served or items given to residents at any time. Each facility might make the call on how far it wants to go to stay green. However, residents should be aware that an entirely eco friendly assisted living facility may be more expensive because of the additional cost of making these green options a reality.

Living in an assisted living facility or any senior living facility that is go green can have many potential health benefits while being more safe and friendly to the environment. When considering the types of assisted living options, look into what they are doing to stay green. While many older facilities may not have been built with eco friendly systems in mind you can ask questions regarding what they may do in the future or how they can change their current systems to accommodate resident’s needs in this area. Assisted living facilities should want to provide a healthy, productive environment for its residents. If going green is going to be more economically beneficial in the long run there is no reason that they wouldn’t choose that option when presented with it.

Consider too the ways you can go green in your own home. Little things can help you save energy, conserve resources and promote good health for you and your loved ones. Look into the green options you have so you can begin to make your difference.

As global warming continues to be a major concern for the future of our planet, people are starting to turn to green living practices to help save it for future generations. Green living involves every aspect of our daily lives – from driving to work to mowing our lawns.

Making the switch to green living all at once might scare most people away from implementing those earth-friendly changes. However, there are many ways to ease into this practice and help save the environment.

Air pollution is a major problem in many cities. Massive amounts of pollutant have been generated by factories, but that is not the only avenue contributing to global warming. Automobiles give off a fair amount of pollutants into the air as well.

When you have a lot of cars driving around on the city streets, you are multiplying the amount of pollutants being emitted by each car that is destroying our ozone. If you want to save the environment, you can start by either carpooling, walking more instead of driving or even purchasing hybrid models that do not contribute much damage.

This small change can bring much relief for the environment for future generations. There are many ways to adapt green living into your life by taking a look at your home. What kind of light bulbs are you using?

The standard bulbs we use contribute to higher electricity bills and higher levels of carbon dioxide. If you switch at least some of your standard bulbs with the compact fluorescent bulbs, you can save the environment and at the same time save on your electric bill.

Make sure to seal any gaps around windows and doors to keep any cold drafts from blowing into the house, which can cost you more money. Make sure the house is well insulated to help cut down on those costs in the wintertime. The less the furnace or heater has to run, the better off everyone will be.

Take a look at your appliances. Are they devouring too much energy? If they are older models, the answer is probably yes. While some of the changes are in the appliances that you use, other ways to go green involve your own habits and actions.

Do you open the oven door several times to check and see if something is done? The harder an appliance has to work, the harder it is on the environment. If you keep opening the oven door, the temperature will drop almost 25 degrees. It will then have to work harder to get back to the original temperature.

Recycling is an excellent way to save our environment. Try buying products that can be recycled and avoid the non-recyclable items such as Styrofoam cups. The less trash that has to be burned – or buried into our soil – the better off our planet will be.

These small changes may seem like they are not able to help much for the environment, but in reality they can help tremendously. Every little bit we do is a much-needed step toward reserving natural resources for our future generations. Get involved with the environment and start to make a difference in the practice of green living for our earth.
